§ Mr. AlisonAt October 1982, the number of people registered as unemployed in the area covered by the Balham, Clapham Junction and Tooting employment offices, which corresponds closely to Wandsworth, was 15,218. The corresponding number at May 1979 was 5,698. The number of unemployed claimants at October 1982—the basis of the unemployment count from now on—was 14,270.
The figures include school leavers and are not seasonally adjusted.
