§ Mr. John Morrisasked the Secretary of State for Wales of the 14,000 jobs expected to be financed as a result of Government financial assistance for the steel areas in the period 1 April 1980 to 30 September, and of the 1,800 and 4,200 jobs expected to be provided for the Port Talbot and Newport travel-to-work areas, how many have so far been provided.
§ Mr. Michael RobertsIt is not yet possible to provide full figures for employment in those projects for which SFA offers were accepted in the period 1 April 1980 and 30 September 1982. Employment details are normally supplied when companies claim their second instalment of grant, up to two years after accepting the offer. So far, we know of 2,200 jobs which have materialised; 550 in the Port Talbot TTWA and some 600 at Newport TTWA.
