asked the Secretary of State for Social Services what is his estimate of the cost in the current financial year of raising the limit of net capital assets above which family income supplement is no longer payable, from £2,000 to £2,500.

Mr. Newton

The capital limit for supplementary benefit is being increased on 22 November 1982 from £2,000 to £2,500 at an estimated cost of £3 million in 1982– 83 and £10 million in 1983–84. There is no capital rule applied to family income supplement.
