§ Mr. Altonasked the Secretary of State for Social Services if he will review the schemes of the Manpower Services Commission so that after 12 months on any particular scheme a mentally handicapped adult remains eligible for invalidity pension.
§ Mr. RossiFor benefit purposes, a period spent on a course of training, instruction or rehabilitation provided by, or run on behalf of, the Manpower Services Commission is treated as if it were a period of unemployment. If there is entitlement to invalidity pension just before a course's start and that benefit is claimed again when the course ends then, providing there is fresh evidence of incapacity for work, there will be no loss of eligibility to invalidity pension. If the hon. Member has a particular case in mind I will be glad to look into it.
