§ Mr. Maxwell-Hyslopasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will give a detailed account of the progress made in selling the disused premises of Haldon prison camp since the House rose for the Summer Recess.
§ Mr. MayhewSince 30 July, the preliminary steps have been taken to sell the property by public tender. The Treasury Solicitor is preparing, in consultation with the Home Office directorate of works, the necessary legal documentation including the conditions of sale, and when finalised it will be forwarded to the appointed land agents to proceed with the sale.
The particulars of sale must accurately reflect the conditions and easements affecting the site and especially the town planning requirements. Collating this information has entailed considerable correspondence between the Treasury Solicitor, the local authority, the appointed agents and the Home Office directorate of works. These matters have been progressing since 9 July 1982 when the Home Office estate surveyor gave notice to Treasury Solicitor of the intention to dispose of Haldon camp by public tender. It is hoped that public tender will be invited early in the new year.
