HC Deb 18 May 1982 vol 24 cc61-2W
Mr. Hooson

asked the Secretary of State for Wales what was the level of actual Government support for the Development Board for Rural Wales at constant prices and excluding housing subsidies for each of the four years 1978–79 to 1981–82.

of nuclear waste; and what is his estimate of the volume of medium and high level waste accumulated and available for disposal by the year 2000.

Mr. Giles Shaw

I have been asked to reply.

The White Paper on radioactive waste management will be issued as soon as practicable. By the year 2000, up to 80,000 cubic metres of treated intermediate and high level waste will have been generated, most of it intermediate level. We anticipate that disposal facilities for intermediate level wastes will be available by the end of the decade. Research is taking place in connection with disposal facilities for high level wastes, although they will not be required until after the year 2000.
