§ Mr. Ian Millsasked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether he has any figures available for average occupational pension rises over the past three years; and whether he will consider limiting future Civil Service pension increases to the level of increase provided by an index of private sector occupational pensions.
§ Mr. HayhoeThe most recent information available to the Government is that summarised in chapter 10 of the Government Actuary's sixth survey of occupational pension schemes 1979—HMSO 1981—which related to increases in 1979; tha summarised in the Government Actuary's review of the adjustment for differences in superannuation benefits—HMSO 1980—which formed part of the 1980 Civil Service pay research exercise and related to increases over periods of up to the previous five years; and that published—with qualifications—in the 1981 National Association of Pension Funds survey. The Government are reviewing the question of inflation-proofed public sector pensions in the light of the Scott report.
