HC Deb 11 May 1982 vol 23 c241W
Mrs. Renée Short

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment (1) what financial support was given to the air pollution division at the Warren Spring laboratory for each of the last three years at constant prices; and what is the value of the contract for 1982–83;

(2) if he will give details of any discussions in which his Department is participating at present taking place in Europe on the question of reducing air pollution.

Mr. Giles Shaw

I shall answer these questions shortly.

Mrs. Renée Short

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment what research projects into air pollution have been financed by his Department in 1981–82 and at what cost; and what projects are to be financed in 1982–83 and at what cost.

Mr. Giles Shaw

The programme for 1981–82 was divided into four main project areas:

£K
Abatement and dispersion 607
Measurement, interpretation and assessment 800
Atmospheric chemistry 507
Effects on vegetation 64

The total cost was approximately £2 million.

The work in these areas will continue in 1982–83 at a cost of approximately £1.6 million 1982–83 prices, with changes in the balance of the programme which have yet to be fully decided.
