§ Dr. Hampsonasked the Secretary of State for Education and Science if he will encourage the use of the United Kingdom's secondary schools as a national resource for extending the education of adults; and whether he will launch an initiative to increase the multi-purpose use of schools.
§ Mr. William SheltonA survey by the Department of the shared and extended use of schools in 1978–79 showed that secondary school accommodation is already used extensively for the education of adults. It is for local authorities to determine, in considering how best to rationalise accommodation in the light of falling school rolls, the nature and potential extent of the educational needs of adults in their areas and the resources required adequately to meet them.
