§ Sir Peter Millsasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether, in view of the fact that young people can now obtain a viewing of X certificate films on home video cassettes, he will consider seeking to amend the Children and Young Persons (Harmful Publications) Act to include video cassettes.
§ Mr. MayhewThe Act is designed to deal with the sale of articles such as horror comics, which are intended to appeal specially to children or young persons; it would not in our view be an appropriate means of controlling the sale or hire of video cassettes. We are, however, keeping under review, the operation of the law in relation to video cassettes, particularly as regards material involving horror or violence.
