asked the Secretary of State for Social Services what was the average number of teeth extracted per full-time dental officer in the school dental service in the most recent year for which figures are available; and what was the comparable figure in the Leek parliamentary constituency.

The average number of teeth extracted per full-time dental officer in the school dental service in England in 1980 was 543. Information is not available in respect of parliamentary constituencies, but the comparable figure for the area of the former Staffordshire area health authority was 945.

The dental officers concerned spent some of their time treating patients other than in the school dental service.

Information is not available in respect of parliamentary constituencies, but the comparable figure for the area of the former Staffordshire area health authority was 157.
