§ Mr. David HowellOn 22 December 1981 I announced my approval for the electrification of rail services between Colchester and Harwich, Ipswich and Norwich at a cost of nearly £30 million in 1980 prices. I am now considering the board's proposals in principle to electrify the East Coast main line to Leeds and to Newcastle. I shall announce my decision on these proposals as soon as possible.
