HC Deb 08 June 1982 vol 25 c27W
Mr. Eldon Griffiths

asked the Secretary of State for Transport, pursuant to the reply to the hon. Member for Bury St. Edmunds, Official Report, 18 May, c. 74, about fencing of the M11, what are the measured traffic noise levels against which the close boarded fences are providing protection; and how many persons live sufficiently close to the Ml 1 motorway to require a reduction in the ambient noise levels to those above which compensation for noise nuisance may be payable.

Mrs. Chalker

There are eight separate lengths of closeboarded fence. They afford protection against calculated noise levels ranging from 61 to 69 dB(A). Compensation for noise nuisance is not related to ambient noise levels or to distance from the motorway but to depreciation in the value of a property.
