§ Mr. Proctorasked the Secretary of State for the Environment whether, in the light of the appointment of the Under-Secretary of State, the hon. Member for Ealing, Acton (Sir G. Young), as chairman of the Lambeth inner city partnership, he has any plans to make special provision for the borough of Lambeth within the context of his Department's responsibilities; whether he intends also to direct further public funds into the borough; and if he will make a statement.
§ Mr. HeseltineMy hon. Friend's assumption of the chairmanship of the inner city partnerships in Lambeth, Hackney and Islington does not denote any change in policy towards Lambeth or the other boroughs.
§ Mr. Proctorasked the Secretary of State for the Environment what extra duties will be taken on by the Under-Secretary of State, the hon. Member for Ealing, Acton (Sir G. Young) in the context of his chairmanship of the Lambeth inner city partnership; and what other duties he will cease to perform as a result of his appointment.
§ Mr. HeseltineIn addition to his other duties, I have asked my hon. Friend to become chairman of the inner city partnerships in Lambeth, Hackney and Islington. Formally, these involve taking the chair at meetings of partnership committees and approving inner area programmes.
