Immigrants 9,000 Emigrants 11,000 An emigrant is defined as a person who, having resided for at least one year in the United Kingdom, intends to spend a year or more in another country; and vice versa for an immigrant. The estimates are derived from the international passenger survey, a voluntary sample survey of travellers at United Kingdom sea and air ports excluding routes to and from the Irish Republic.
