HC Deb 30 July 1982 vol 28 cc774-5W
Mr. Cryer

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department, pursuant to the reply to the hon. Member for Keighley of 26 July, whether he intends to produce a White Paper to outline his policy towards the banning of certain types of wireless telegraphy equipment; and when he proposes to introduce the legislation.

Mr. Raison

The Government's proposals to which the hon. Member refers are designed to reduce radio interference and would among other things, enable the Secretary of State to control the sale of equipment whose installation, use, importation and manufacture he already has powers to control under the Wireless Telegraphy Acts. They will be presented to the House as soon as parliamentary time permits. Since they relate to enforcement, they do not imply any change in policy as to the types of wireless telegraphy equipment which the Government are willing to license.
