asked the Minister for Trade whether, in view of the report by the Advertising Standards Authority that the wearing of copper bracelets and other items does not ease or cure rheumatism and arthritic complaints and does not ease the swelling of joints, he will take steps to prevent the printing and advertising of such false claims, if necessary by introducing legislation.

I see no need at present for new legislation against such claims, which are already prohibited by the ASA under the advertising industry's self-regulatory arrangements.
