§ Mr. ButcherSince the iron and steel employees readaptation benefits scheme came into operation in July 1974, 83,601 redundant steelworkers have become eligible for benefits as a result of nearly 200 separate closures or reductions in activity. Information is not readily available on the extent to which those eligible have received benefits in each of the steel plant locations.
§ Mr. McNamaraasked the Secretary of State for Industry how credits authorised under article 56. 2. b. (ECSC readaption benefits) in the period 1 January 1979 to 31 December 1981 in the Yorkshire and Humberside area have been allocated.
