Mr. Grylls

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer if he will list the number of employees for each of the nationalised industries for 1980–81 and 1981–82.

Employment figures for nationalised industries are compiled only on an annual basis and in respect of mid-calendar years. The latest published figures for nationalised industries as a whole relate to mid-1980. Corresponding figures for mid-1981 will be published in an article on "Employment in the public and private sectors 1976 to 1982" inEconomic Trends, December 1982 issue. Estimates available for mid-1981 are as follows:
