§ Mr. Cryerasked the Secretary of State for Industry if he will list the measures taken to reduce the level of unemployment in the Keighley travel-to-work area since May 1979.
§ Mr. MacGregorI refer the hon. Member to the speech in the House on 27 July by my right hon. and learned Friend the Chancellor of the Exchequer in which he reported the progress of the Government's policies designed to create conditions in which all parts of the country, including Keighley, can become more competitive and which will lead to the creation of new and secure jobs. In addition, while Keighley has been an intermediate area—until 30 July—industry there has been eligible for the appropriate level of regional aid. Industry in Keighley is also eligible for the range of national measures available from my Department. The unemployment rate in Keighley is now about the national average.
