HC Deb 28 July 1982 vol 28 cc534-5W
Mr. Nicholas Winterton

asked the Secretary of State for Industry what has been the level of aid to the United Kingdom textile industry given by the European Economic Community since 1980.

Mr. MacGregor

In 1981 £1.96 million was allocated to United Kingdom retraining and resettlement schemes under the part of the European social fund reserved for textile and clothing workers. The fund also paid £120,000 to textile companies as a matching contribution in respect of training schemes receiving assistance under section 7 of the Industry Act 1972.
