HC Deb 28 July 1982 vol 28 c554W
Mr. Latham

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services what was the number of men aged 60 years or over in Leicestershire at the latest convenient date who had opted for the long-term rate of supplementary benefit and were not registering for work, having been unemployed and drawing supplementary benefit for a year or more.

Mr. Newton

In May 1982 there were an estimated 500 unemployed claimants aged 60 or over receiving the long-term rate of supplementary benefit from local offices in Leicestershire. This figure may include some living outside Leicestershire itself.

Source: 100 per cent. count of claims in action.
