asked the Secretary of State for Transport if he will initiate a study into the amount of lead in the atmosphere from exhaust emissions from vehicles using the main through routes in Hackney, South and Shoreditch, particularly Pitfield Street, New North Road, Graham Road, Kingsland Road and Mare Street.

Such a study would be unlikely to add to the very considerable amount of research already being carried out into all aspects of lead in the environment. Studies in urban areas are part of this research and it will provide the necessary guidance being sought.
