HC Deb 27 July 1982 vol 28 c506W
Mr. Skinner

asked the Secretary of State for Transport whether he will study the work carried out by the centre for disease control in Atlanta, Georgia, demonstrating the relationship between the phasing out of lead additives in petrol and the drop in blood-lead levels of the population.

Mrs. Chalker

Full details of this study have only recently become available and are being studied urgently.

I understand that the researchers do not claim that their study has established a cause and effect relationship between reductions in petrol lead and total lead intake. Average United States blood lead levels are now similar to those in the United Kingdom.
