§ Q27. Mr. Skinner
asked the Prime Minister if she will now meet a deputation of those widows who are paying tax on a total income of less than £37 per week.
§ The Prime Minister
My right hon. and learned Friend the Chancellor of the Exchequer and my hon. Friend the Financial Secretary to the Treasury recently met 109W representatives of the National Association of Widows to discuss the tax position of widows. At that meeting they made it clear that the Government want to see a reduction in the tax paid by widows and by everyone else, but that this can happen only when overall circumstances permit.
