§ The Prime MinisterMy right hon. and learned Friend the Chancellor of the Exchequer and my hon. Friend the Financial Secretary to the Treasury recently met 109W representatives of the National Association of Widows to discuss the tax position of widows. At that meeting they made it clear that the Government want to see a reduction in the tax paid by widows and by everyone else, but that this can happen only when overall circumstances permit.
