§ Mr. Stan Thorne
asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether, following his voluntary agreement with representatives of the tobacco companies, he will ensure that the ban on television advertising by cigarette companies is closely monitored.
§ Mr. Raison
The Independent Broadcasting Authority remains subject to a direction, given in 1965, not to broadcast paid advertisements for cigarettes and cigarette tobacco. We are satisfied that it complies strictly with that direction.
The voluntary agreements on this subject are the responsibility of other Ministers than myself.
