§ Mr. McKelveyasked the Secretary of State for Scotland what steps he has taken to end the decline in manufacturing jobs in the Kilmarnock and Loudon district.
§ Mr. Alexander FletcherThe objective of the Government's economic policy is to achieve a sustained improvement in the national economy, and this will benefit manufacturing industry in all parts of Scotland. Kilmarnock and Loudon receives special development area assistance under the Government's regional policy and will benefit from a project to regenerate the local economy in which the local authorities, the Scottish Development Agency and the private sector will co-operate.
