Mrs. RenéeShort asked the Secretary of State for the Environment what recent advice he has had from local authority associations about the future of the fire services, including jobs, if the Government's spending plans for local authorities keep to their targets in the current and the next two financial years.
§ Mr. KingReports have been prepared on the implications of the Government's expenditure plans for Home Office services and for local environmental services. These reports are compiled on a confidential basis by officials from central and local government. My right hon. Friend and I are to discuss them at the consultative council on local government finance next week.
