§ Miss Boothroydasked the Minister for Trade what steps he is taking to ensure that United Kingdom lighting manufacture is not further eroded by the importation of domestic light bulbs, the components of which are manufactured in Hungary and assembled and exported by the Tungsram factory in the Republic of Ireland.
§ Mr. Peter ReesProvided that light bulbs have acquired Community origin by virtue of Regulation (EEC) 802/68 of the Council, they are entitled by law to unrestricted access to the United Kingdom. Following correspondence with the hon. Member and other representations received, my Department has had discussions with the European Commission, which is considering the position in relation to the Community's competition rules. I am pressing the Commission for an early response and will let the hon. Member know the outcome.
