asked the Secretary of State for Employment whether he has any new proposals for extending the range of retraining facilities for those unemployed in rural areas who are excluded from the provisions of the youth training scheme; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Peter Morrison

The youth training scheme will apply to young people in rural areas on the same basis as in other areas. The Manpower Services Commission is currently considering its future training strategy for adults in all parts of the country including rural areas. The Open Tech programme will also make technical and supervisory training more accessible to people throughout the country.
