§ Mr. Arthur Lewisasked the Secretary of State for Social Services if, in view of his policy of limiting the salaries and wages of the workers in the National Health Service, he will reconsider the appointment of Mr. Brian Bailey as chairman of the Government-financed Health Education Council on a two day a week basis at £7,161 per annum, in view of the fact that Mr. Bailey is already chairman of the South-Western regional hospital board and Television South-West; and if he will make this post a full-time appointment at this salary.
§ Mr. Geoffrey FinsbergAs my right hon. Friend informed my hon. Friend the Member for Birmingham, Edgbaston (Mrs. Knight) on 23 June—[Vol. 26, c.128.]—Mr. Bailey will relinquish his chairmanship of the South-Western regional health authority on 1 January 1983 when he becomes chairman of the Health Education Council. The time required for the duties of the latter post is expected to be on average the same as the former, and the annual sum to be paid will be the same.
