§ Mr. Brightasked the Secretary of State for Trade on how many occasions Civil Aviation Authority decisions concerning matters relating to route licences have been overruled by Government directive.
§ Mr. SproatThe Secretary of State for Trade has reversed air transport licensing decisions of the Civil Aviation Authority on four occasions as a result of appeals to him by airlines. On four other occasions, also following appeals, the authority has been directed to rehear cases. The Secretary of State has also on six occasions issued directions to the authority under section 4 of the Civil Aviation Act 1971 not to hear applications, but in no case has this involved overturning a decision of the authority.
