§ 15. Mr. Foulkesasked the Secretary of State for Industry if he will reconsider the position regarding special development area status of the Girvan area in the light of the increase in unemployment.
§ Mr. Norman LamontAs I have stated, the Government are always prepared to consider the designation of areas in the light of changing circumstances. However, the unemployment rate is only one of the considerations that is taken into account. At present I am satisfied that development area status remains appropriate.
