for Wolverhampton, North-East on 20 November, Official Report c. 263–4, what action is to be taken on the report of the structural engineers on the new wing at the Great Ormond Street hospital for sick children; and if he will make a statement.

Dr. Vaughan

The report of the structural engineers on structural defects in the cardiac unit building at the hospital for sick children was received by the board of governors in December 1981 and by the Department in January 1982. It is a substantial document of 16 volumes, each of around 200 pages, and is at present being studied by professional officers in the Department.

Concurrently the board's project manager and design team—including a new and recently appointed firm of architects—are considering how the proposed remedial works should be carried out and are preparing a revised estimate of their cost in collaboration with the Department.
