§ Mr. Nicholas Wintertonasked the Secretary of State for Education and Science if he will seek powers to enable him to prevent any dissemination in schools of unilateralist anti-nuclear publicity by teachers and others to the exclusion of alternative points of view.
§ Dr. BoysonThe responsibility for what is taught in schools and how it is taught rests with local authorities, governing bodies and the schools themselves. The Government hope that all teachers recognise their duty to present a balanced view, and the Government have no plans to seek new powers on this particular matter. Following his recent meeting with representatives of the National Union of Teachers, my right hon. Friend the Minister of State, Foreign and Commonwealth Office is considering the suggestion that balanced factual material on disarmament should be made available to the schools.
