§ Mr. Ashley
asked the Prime Minister if she proposes to appoint a successor to carry out the duties of the former Minister for Consumer Affairs; if her successor will be engaged full-time on consumer affairs; and, if not, what plans she has for ministerial appointments to ensure that consumer interests are safeguarded.
§ The Prime Minister
Responsibility for consumer affairs within the Department of Trade rests ultimately, as it always has done, with the Secretary of State. When decisions have been reached on the ministerial arrangements best suited to help him discharge this responsibility in the future, these will be announced in the usual way.445W
