HC Deb 24 February 1982 vol 18 c397W
Mr. Madel

asked the Secretary of State for Energy whether, in the light of the answer given to the hon. Member for Edinburgh, Central (Mr. Cook) on 24 July 1981, the Hinkley Point A Magnox station was modified to increase plutonium production.

Mr. John Moore

As announced by the Paymaster General on 22 June 1959—[Vol. 607, c. 849]—the CEGB's Magnox reactor at Hinkley Point A was modified in such a way as to enable the reactor to be operated to facilitate plutonium production. However, the reactor has not been operated in this way, and the modifications carried out have been used to improve the performance of the reactor for electricity generation.
