HC Deb 24 February 1982 vol 18 c436W
Mr. Whitlock

asked the Secretary of State for Transport how many local authority bypasses were started in 1979–80, 1980–81 and 1981–82; and how many are projected to start in 1982–83.

Mr. Kenneth Clarke

The number of bypasses and relief roads costing over £1 million which have been started by county councils in each of the last three years is as follows:

Number
1979–80 23
1980–81 16
1981–82 19

As a result of the 1982–83 transport supplementary grant settlement, county councils should be able to incur expenditure in 1982–83 on 35 new schemes of this kind.
