§ Mr. Neil Thorne
asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department (1) if he will amend the law to ensure that reasons must be given for rejecting a juror in order to limit the number required to be kept in reserve at public expense;
(2) if he will seek to amend the Juries Act to ensure that no person who has been convicted of an indictable offence, other than a traffic offence, for which a term of imprisonment is an option open to the sentencing judge, shall be eligible for jury service for a period of 10 years.
§ Mr. Mayhew
My right hon. Friend is considering whether any changes are called for in the law relating to disqualification for jury service and related matters. He will take both of my hon. Friend's proposals into account.
