HC Deb 18 February 1982 vol 18 c197W
Miss Wright

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services what is the current delay in arranging visits to assess home circumstances of new applicants for supplementary benefit in the various Birmingham areas.

Mrs. Chalker

Nine of the 11 DHSS offices in Birmingham visit new applicants for supplementary benefit within five working days. At Handsworth and Northfield local offices visits are made within 10 working days, although in cases of urgency an immediate visit can always be arranged.

Miss Wright

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services how many young people between the ages of 16 and 19 years, and how many individuals over the age of 19 years, are currently drawing supplementary benefit whilst undertaking a course of study for less than 21 hours per week.

Mrs. Chalker

I regret that this information is not available.
