HC Deb 18 February 1982 vol 18 c181W
Q34. Mr. Adams

asked the Prime Minister if she will take immediate steps to ensure the future of the Scottish textile industry.

The Prime Minister

The Scottish textile industry has weathered the present recession more successfully than the industry in the United Kingdom as a whole and there is now some evidence of a recovery, though certain sectors of the industry may require further rationalisation and investment. Assistance remains available for suitable cases notably under section 7 of the Industry Act. Over £7.8 million has been offered to the industry under those provisions since the beginning of 1979.
