§ Mr. Alexanderasked the Chancellor of the Exchequer when the deposit protection scheme provided for in the Banking Act 1979 will be brought into operation.
§ Mr. Bruce-GardyneThe deposit protection scheme provided for in the Banking Act will come into operation tomorrow by virtue of a statutory instrument--SI 1982/188 (c7)—which was made today.
The instrument will also bring certain other minor provisions of the Act—repeals of provisions which have become obsolete or unnecessary, and consequential amendments and repeals—into force on the same day.
