§ Mr. Meacherasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department what is his policy towards the establishment of an independent registrar or computer 6W ombudsman for the purpose of data protection; and whether he has made any assessment of the extent of staffing which would be required, of what specialisations or skills and of what grades.
§ Mr. RaisonThe Government's proposals for legislation on data protection will be contained in a White Paper to be published shortly. We have in mind that there might be an independent registrar with a small staff, who would include computer experts.
