§ Mr. Arthur Lewisasked the Secretary of State for Energy whether he will introduce legislation to prevent the electricity boards from imposing a £5 automatic charge, without rights of appeal or explanation, on their blind, sick, deaf and old age pensioner customers who may not be present to admit electricity board staff to read the meter, as in the case of Mrs. Marion King of Ilford, Essex, details of which have been supplied to him.
§ Mr. MellorThis is a matter for the boards concerned, but I understand that such charges are made only in special circumstances. I am asking the chairman of the London Electricity Board to write to the hon. Member about the particular case to which he refers.
