§ Mr. AlisonWorkington jobcentre placed 92 people—53 males and 39 females, in the 5-week period ending 14 January 1982, the latest for which statistics are available. There is likely to have been a substantial number of vacancies in the area not handled by employment offices of jobcentres. Nationally, the Commission has estimated from a 1977 survey that about a third of all vacancies are notified to it.
