§ 19. Mr. Cadburyasked the Lord Privy Seal whether any new initiatives are planned by the Western powers to end the occupation of Afghanistan by the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics.
§ Mr. HurdI know of no new initiatives, but the European Council's proposals of 30 June 1981 remain on the table and continue to offer a reasonable and practical means to a solution. The Government will continue to press the Soviet Union to withdraw all its troops from Afghanistan, and thus open the way to a peaceful settlement.
