§ Mr. Wheelerasked the Secretary of State for Transport what was the effect of the October 1981 drive against vehicle tax dodgers in London; how many unlicensed vehicles were found; how many persons were proceeded against; and what revenue has been recovered.
§ Mr. Kenneth ClarkeIt was very successful and I am grateful to the Metropolitan Police for their co-operation. There was a marked increase in relicensing as a result of publicity about the special checks and nearly 1,700 apparently unlicensed vehicles were detected. Offence reports are still being processed and prosecutions will follow where appropriate. Further details will not be available until those procedures have been completed.
