HC Deb 01 February 1982 vol 17 c42W
Mr. Banks

asked the Secretary of State for Defence if he will list the ships in the Royal Navy for sale.

Mr. Blaker

The following ships have been publicised in material put out by the defence sales organisation:

  • "Berwick"
  • "Brighton"
  • "Endurance"
  • "Falmouth"
  • "Glamorgan"
  • "Gurkha"
  • "Hermes"
  • "Intrepid"
  • "Lincoln"
  • "London"
  • "Lynx"
  • "Norfolk"
  • "Rhyl"
  • "Tenacity"
  • "Tartar"
  • "Zulu"

Some of these ships are already the subject of sales negotiations or agreements; nor does a particular ship's inclusion on the list rule out the possibility of its retention. In addition, negotiations are taking place with the New Zealand Government over the purchase of HMS "Bacchante" and HMS "Dido" and with the Australian Government on the possible purchase of an "Invincible" class carrier.
