§ Mr. Canavanasked the Lord Privy Seal whether he will allocate more funds for the education of overseas students.
§ Mr. Neil MartenAdditional money has been made available this year under our training programme for the Governments of developing countries. We expect to spend about £42 million in the current year on training schemes compared with about £37 million in 1980–81. About 4,600 new awards are expected to be made against 3,900 last year.
A substantial level of training will be maintained under the aid programme both bilaterally and through the Commonwealth scholarship and fellowship plan but I cannot yet give a figure for likely expenditure next year.
