§ Sir Raymond Gowerasked the Secretary of State for Wales if he will now take steps to set up land registers in Wales.
§ Mr. Nicholas EdwardsI have decided that land registers should be compiled in Wales, under the provisions of part X of the Local Government, Planning and Land Act 1980, initially in the six local authority areas where the need for them is greatest. These areas are: Alyn and Deeside district council, Wrexham Maelor borough council, Newport borough council, Cardiff city council, Vale of Glamorgan borough council and Swansea city council. I shall be deciding whether land registers should be compiled for the remaining local authority areas in the light of experience with the initial registers.
The necessary orders will be laid before Parliament as soon as possible. My Department is writing to the six local authorities concerned about my decision.
